Prose Mechanics - Proust: A Sentence Like a Line

Details
Welcome to Prose Mechanics, a new and original course to improve the style of your prose and the power of your rhetoric.
In this session, we are going to look at one writer: Marcel Proust, who famously said he wanted to write a sentence like a line, and he did. We will explore a few of his most beautiful, sensuous sentences, and "look under the hood" to see the patterns and structures that allowed Proust to write such long, flowing sentences, the type which made him justly famous.
This session is suitable for those who
- want to learn to read better to write better
- want to experiment with writing longer more sophisticated sentences
- want to flex their grammatical muscles
Bring a pen, paper, and a coffee and be prepared to read and write and share.
A link will be shared 15 minutes before we begin.

It was one of the best workshops that I have ever done. It was an absolute pleasure and I learned a lot. The classes were always well-structured, engaging, and top-notch. Highly recomment it!

I was part of a writing group that David led. He called it Prose Mechanics, and that's exactly what it was. David took us back to our learning days and refreshed our memories of English grammar and structural tools, hugely improving our writing in the process.
He came ready with meticulously prepared exercises at each session and, in his gentle way, pushed our group to write and critique better. I would wholeheartedly recommend David if you are looking to improve your writing skills.

I thought writng was all about content. David changed this perception. After completeing David's course, Prose Mechanics: Style through Syntax, I see writing differently. Gone are the days when I read for content. Now I see writing as art, as a puzzle that can be deconstructed and assembled, as a dance that can change in cadence and speed, as a substance with texture, and structure that can be modified.

Thank you so much David for a brilliant learning session. It was insightful and informative. The techniques used to explain the concept of creative sentence construction made it easy for me to comprehend and apply them. I am eagerly lookiing forward to our next session.
