The Best of All Possible Worlds (Candide)

It has been too long — way too long. It's time to resurrect the Beverly Literati and Culture Meet-Up Group!

Mark your calendar for Saturday, June 10, 2017. We will meet at the Beverly Public Library in the Sohier Room at 3:00 pm for a (roughly) two-hour discussion of Voltaire's classic Candide. We will relate it to the determinism put forth by Leibniz — and will even touch upon the poetry of Alexander Pope and the music of the Canadian trio Rush. (Yes, it is all connected.) It promises to be a great discussion centered around the question "Is this the best of all possible worlds?" This is a pertinent topic, especially in the current political clime.

After our discussion, we will go to Bella Mia (as we have in the past) for drinks and dinner. Bella Mia is located around the corner from the Library (218 Cabot Street). We will be go to the restaurant shortly after 5:00 pm.
