Am I "gifted"? What does that mean and why is it so important to know?

It's 2020....so I guess it's the year of seeing more clearly, right?

I want to start the year off by inviting new members and those who we have not yet met in person to join me for an open discussion about intellectual giftedness, during which I will endeavour to answer these questions...(please note that regulars are warmly welcomed to attend and to contribute to the discussion!)

  • Am I gifted? At this point, most gifted people don't really know what giftedness is, yet it has a profound effect on most aspects of their lives.
  • What does it mean? First, that you were born gifted and that you will always be gifted....it doesn't go away. That means that your thinking patterns and processes will differ meaningfully from those of most of the population. It has the same underlying influence on all of our lives and will translate to similar types of experiences, challenges and opportunities quite unique to this population.
  • Why is it important to know? Simply because it affects pretty much every aspect of your life...and not understanding why and how you are different from most people, but still trying to fit in can (and so very often does) translate to stress related mental and physical health issues. It's important that you understand your differences so that you can live a good (or great) life as a gifted person.

At very least....this is a chance to meet others who will probably get you like no one else possibly can. And that experience alone can be wonderful.

I hope to see you on the 15th!

Gord
