Love in Chiang Mai - Are We Dating—or Just Passing Through?
Details
Is it really possible to find lasting love in Chiang Mai as an expat?
Chiang Mai is a city of fresh starts. People arrive after divorces, career changes, burnout, retirement, heartbreak, or simply a desire to build a completely different life.
And then… we meet someone.
Connections can happen quickly. Conversations become deep. Chemistry feels intense. We travel together, make plans, imagine a future—and sometimes, just as quickly, everything changes.
One person needs more closeness. The other needs more space.
One person is thinking about the future. The other is still figuring out where they will live next year.
Sometimes two people genuinely care about each other—and still cannot build a healthy relationship together.
So what does it really take to find and sustain love in an international, constantly changing city like Chiang Mai?
In this special Beyond Small Talk gathering, we will explore:
• Why expat relationships can become emotionally intense so quickly
• The difference between chemistry and compatibility
• Why some relationships fall into a push–pull cycle
• Emotional availability and readiness for commitment
• How travel, visas, retirement, age, and changing life plans affect relationships
• Whether love is enough to sustain a relationship
• How to recognize when a relationship needs repair—and when it may be time to release it
• What we actually need to build lasting love
This will not be a lecture.
Through personal reflection, questionnaires, pair conversations, small-group exercises, and open discussion, we will examine our own relationship patterns and ask some difficult questions.
Can someone love you and still be unable to give you the relationship you need?
Do we sometimes confuse emotional intensity with compatibility?
Are we choosing people who are available—or hoping unavailable people will eventually choose us?
And perhaps the biggest question:
Is Chiang Mai a place where we can find lasting love—or are too many of us simply passing through?
Whether you are single, dating, in a relationship, divorced, healing from a breakup, or simply curious about human connection, you are welcome.
🌿 Beyond Small Talk is a space for honest conversation, curiosity, and meaningful human connection.
