At the airport, you will be greeted by a representative from The Asia Adventure Nepal who will take you to your hotel in Thimphu for a good night's sleep. However, if your flight arrives early and you want to visit a few places in Thimphu then it can be arranged too. Accommodation: Standard Hotel Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Max. Altitude: 2,320m//8,382ft Day 2: Sightseeing in Thimphu The day begins with a visit to the National Memorial Chorten (1974) built-in honor of our late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk. We will make a visit to Changangkha Lhakhang. Then we will visit Takin Preservation which has the national animal of Bhutan. On the way, we will visit the Royal Textile Academy. After lunch, we drive to the Traditional Medicine Institute where medicines are prepared according to ancient practices. Other highlights include a visit to the Tashichho Dzong, around 5:00 pm the seat of the national government and the Central Monastic Body, including the summer residence of the Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot of Bhutan). The drive to Punakha is a pleasant one; through fir, rhododendron, and hemlock forest. En route to our main destination, Punakha, we visit the village of Metshina. The village houses Chimi Lhakhang, a fertility temple dedicated to the ‘’Divine Madman’’ or Lama Drukpa Kuenley. Once in Punakha, we head towards Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. The Chorten is located in the upper Punakha Valley. It is a scenic short hike to the chorten. Explore the magnificent paintings on display related to Buddhism. We also visit the second oldest and second-largest Dzong in Bhutan, Punakha Dzong. It is located where two rivers Mo Chu and Pho Chu meet. We then return to Thimphu for a good night’s sleep. Accommodation: Standard Hotel Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Max. Altitude: 1,250m/4,101ft Day 4: Thimphu to Paro via Wangdi: 154 km, 5-6 hours We drive to Paro today. It is a pleasant ride; first through Wangdi and then we pass Dochula Pass. Here the eastern Himalayan peaks greet us. We then pass by Simtokha, a small town. From here we follow Wang Chu River till Chuzom then continue our drive alongside Paro Chu River. Accommodation: Standard Hotel Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Max. Altitude: 2,900m/9,515ft Day 5: Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Tiger's Nest) After breakfast, we hike for 4 to 5 hours to Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) Monastery, which is Bhutan's most famous monastery situated at 3,180 meters. Guru Rinpoche (spiritual master) is said to have flown on the back of a tigress to meditate in a cave where the Taktsang Monastery now stands. Lunch will be served in the Cafeteria Restaurant, located about halfway up the mountain. After having explored the monastery, we hike down to the valley floor.
