What we’re about
The Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay was formed in 1987, and helped to create the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) in 1988. The work of BTCEB is essential in developing the mountain biking culture and keeping trails open for local mountain biking. The BTCEB Meetup.com group was established by the Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay (btceb.org). and is a tool for bringing us all, veteran and new riders, together for a great time. By joining BTCEB you'll be supporting grassroots mountain bike advocacy, meet other mountain bikers, and learn about great trails to ride.
STAY INFORMED with our monthly e-newsletter with all the latest events, trail work days, Youth Mountain Bike Adventure, Oakland Bike Patrol programs, social outings, and advocacy news.
VOLUNTEER FOR TRAIL WORK - it is sweat equity. Land managers appreciate reliable, competent volunteers.
COME OUT AND RIDE. We have a group ride calendar with over 5000 members and host several monthly rides. Our women-only ride, Ride Like a Girl, is on the 1st Saturday of the month. Our marquee ride is the monthly Gala Ride which is usually held the last Saturday of the month. The Gala rides are led by experienced local riders who know the trails and offer a group for all skill and fitness levels. Afterward, we regroup for snacks and refreshments. This is a great way to learn new trails and meet others from the east bay at your skill level.
E-BIKES are generally welcome on our Gala rides when the trail system allows them (e.g. EBRPD, China Camp, Tamarancho). If a ride is not open to e-bikes, it will usually be noted on the specific event listing but please know where you are allowed ride to be safe. Like acoustic riders, e-riders are expected to ride within their skill level and stay with their chosen group.
MEMBERSHIPS. We rely on PAID memberships to continue to advocate for and maintain trails and access issues that are important to you,

November Gala Ride at Napa Skyline Wilderness Park (Sat 11/29)
Napa Skyline Park, 2201 Imola Ave, Napa, CA, USNo trick--all treat! Join the Bicycle Trails Council SATURDAY NOVEMBER 29TH for the next installment of our 2025 Gala Ride Series at the rugged, oft pedalie Napa Skyline Wilderness Park!
Skyline Wilderness is a great park to test your technical and aerobic skills, both climbing and descending over rocks, roots, and gnarly obstacles. But don't feel intimidated, there is a trail for every skill level at Napa Skyline. The soil here drains reasonably well, so as long as we haven't had a deluge 3 or 4 days before it'll likely be a park full of hero dirt.
Come join us for the fun!
BTCEB will be paying the entrance fee for ALL RIDERS who RSVP by FRIDAY the 28th at 9am.
BTCEB is shifting to online waivers for our rides. For those that RSVP please fill out the wavier here and save some time.
Please
So be sure to sign up (and also be sure to cancel if something comes up at the last minute).
Meet at:
Skyline Wilderness Park
Main Parking Lot
2201 Imola Ave
Napa, CA 94559
We will gather at 9am in the MAIN PARKING LOT (not the lot near the college) and hit the trails promptly at 9:30am.
Skyline Wilderness Park is located in NAPA. The parking is free inside the lot for BTCEB riders, but it is limited. There is a park day use fee of $3 that you will need to cover if you have NOT RSVP'd. Carpooling is encouraged to make sure we have space for everyone.
In case you don't know here's how a Gala ride works:
- GATHER AT 9AM in the trailhead parking lot and check-in
- HIT THE TRAILS at 9:30AM
- POST-RIDE join us for refreshments, beers, and snacks.
- A well-tuned mountain bike is always a must!
- We offer rides for ALL SKILL LEVELS, from novice to advanced. As so we will separate into 3 levels of riders: The beginner group, group C, will ride around 10 miles and 860ft of elevation gain; The intermediate group, group B, will ride around 12 miles and 1400ft of elevation gain; the advanced group, group A, will ride around 15+ miles and 2000+ ft of elevation gain. All rides are ‘no-drop’ rides (we won’t leave you behind or let you get lost) and are fully supported. A novice rider should be able to ride 10-12 miles ( including ~1000ft of climbing) on hilly narrow singletrack for 2.5 hrs.
- BTCEB (Bicycle Trails Council of East Bay) mission is to educate cyclists in responsible mountain biking, to advocate for appropriate access and to promote community among trail users so all may fully enjoy and preserve the natural spaces of the East Bay. Membership provides funding for our programs and gives us more influence with land managers in getting more access to more places. We work to get more trails made in the East Bay. We help maintain trails within East Bay parks (like Joaquin Miller and Crockett Hills and even Fernandez Ranch!) and we organize fun rides and events for the mountain bike community. Join us and help the cause!

Rides are free and open to the public and led by experienced local mountain bikers familiar with the trails. Medical coverage is provided to all paid BTCEB members, one more reason to join our club!

Ride Like a Girl – Women's MTB Ride – Santa Cruz
Harvey West Park, 326 Evergreen St, Santa Cruz, CA, USUpdate 11/21: the ride date has moved a week earlier to 12/6 because Rebecca can't read a calendar.
The December edition of our women’s ride series will start in Pogonip Open Space Preserve and work its way into to the maze of trails above UC Santa Cruz. We're reasonably sure we won't encounter any actual pogonip - a mangled version of a Shoshone word meaning "freezing fog"!
Join ride leader Rebecca Lewington at 9:00am just off Highway 1 at Harvey West Park in Santa Cruz. It's a charming spot with proper bathrooms and even a pump track. We'll gather up for a quick huddle to talk about the ride at about 9:15, and roll by 9:30am.
Yes, that's half-an-hour later than normal, but hey, it's nearly Christmas! Note also that this is a week earlier than our normal third-Saturday slot, but Rebecca will be on a different continent on our usual date.
We'll likely split into two groups. The Teal group will cover about 14 miles with 2,000 feet of climb, including the insanely fun Sweetness trail. The Denim group will be a bit more challenging in both distance and difficulty, covering about 18 miles with 2,800 feet of climb. The extra comes from the even more insanely fun Magic Carpet trail. But fear not! None of the climbs are terribly steep.
Note that these trails are not suitable for inexperienced riders. Intermediates should be fine, but be prepared to walk a couple of tricky sections.
As always, the mission of Ride Like a Girl is to have fun, learn new trails and meet other women (cis, trans and femme) who love to mountain bike. We’ll take care of you: these are stress-free rides where no one is left behind.
Please bring your mountain bike, obviously, in good working condition. (No ebikes, please. Ride Like a Girl is strictly muscle-powered.) Whether you’re running tubeless tires or not, please make sure you have a spare inner tube to fit your wheels, plenty of water and some food for the trail. We always hang out for a while after the ride, so bring along your favorite beverages and snacks if you feel like it. And a chair!
If you need a ride, or want to set up a carpool, leave a comment and we'll see what the group can come up with.
And please consider joining BTCEB. We are much more than a group that puts on rides. BTCEB tirelessly advocates for better bike access on trails in the East Bay and we need your support. Join today at https://btceb.org/join-us/.
If you have questions, ask 'em below and we’ll get right back to you.10 attendees
