Join BTCEB Events Director David Wilcox for a chance to have your voice heard about the future of mountain biking in the east bay at the Briones Pilot Project Community Check In Event, and stay for an expert guided tour of the all new Pilot Program area in Briones Regional Park. This will take place on Saturday June 15th at 9:30am at the Alhambra Creek Trailhead in Martinez, CA. We head over to the Briones Pilot Community Check-In event held by East Bay Regional Parks at 10am, and ride the four main trails that have been permitted during this 2-year pilot period afterwards around noon. If you haven’t been to Briones, you can expect steep fire road climbs, and highly technical descents unlike most of what we have available to ride legally in the East Bay.

The ride will be on the difficult side due to the climbing involved, and we’ll call out features and ride arounds on the single track to make sure everyone stays in their comfort zone.

These trails are rated black diamond, so riders should be comfortable descending on steep and loose terrain. There will be many bailout points along the ride if anyone gets in over their heads, and the wild flowers are still blooming so it should be a beautiful day out even if you cut the ride short.

Plan for 10 mi and nearly 3000 ft of climbing. Here's the route on Ride w/ GPS

Again this ride is probably best for technically proficient riders, intermediate to advanced in good aerobic condition. Definitely not for the beginner or the out of shape seasoned rider. You must enjoy a tough climb that leads to a great descent. Trails are steep like the steepest sections of back side of China camp generally, but with consistently steep and looser dirt. Trails are also fairly narrow bench cut like back side China camp in sections as well. There are gap jumps and drops on the trails in sections, and all have ride around options for the most part.

*This ride is not an officially supported group ride like our Gala or RLAG rides. The ride leader assumes no liability for participant riders. Bring plenty of water and trail-side nutrition, and your well tuned full suspension mountain bike is a must.

As always ride at your own risk.
