What we’re about
The Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay was formed in 1987, and helped to create the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) in 1988. The work of BTCEB is essential in developing the mountain biking culture and keeping trails open for local mountain biking. The BTCEB Meetup.com group was established by the Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay (btceb.org). and is a tool for bringing us all, veteran and new riders, together for a great time. By joining BTCEB you'll be supporting grassroots mountain bike advocacy, meet other mountain bikers, and learn about great trails to ride.
STAY INFORMED with our monthly e-newsletter with all the latest events, trail work days, Youth Mountain Bike Adventure, Oakland Bike Patrol programs, social outings, and advocacy news.
VOLUNTEER FOR TRAIL WORK - it is sweat equity. Land managers appreciate reliable, competent volunteers.
COME OUT AND RIDE. We have a group ride calendar with over 5000 members and host several monthly rides. Our women-only ride, Ride Like a Girl, is on the 1st Saturday of the month. Our marquee ride is the monthly Gala Ride which is usually held the last Saturday of the month. The Gala rides are led by experienced local riders who know the trails and offer a group for all skill and fitness levels. Afterward, we regroup for snacks and refreshments. This is a great way to learn new trails and meet others from the east bay at your skill level.
E-BIKES are generally welcome on our Gala rides when the trail system allows them (e.g. EBRPD, China Camp, Tamarancho). If a ride is not open to e-bikes, it will usually be noted on the specific event listing but please know where you are allowed ride to be safe. Like acoustic riders, e-riders are expected to ride within their skill level and stay with their chosen group.
MEMBERSHIPS. We rely on PAID memberships to continue to advocate for and maintain trails and access issues that are important to you,
Happy Trails!

We will be riding the regular loop a couple times to get a good amount of distance and climb. We'll climb up to the Vista trail to catch the nice view of the east-east bay, ride under the oak trees on the flowy Woodland and Whipsnake trails and then do it all over again! Should be a good time!
Meet at:
FERNANDEZ RANCH
1081 CHRISTIE RD.
MARTINEZ, CA 94553We will gather at 9am in the parking lot and hit the trails promptly at 9:30am.
FERNANDEZ RANCH is a part of the John Muir Land Trust off of Christie Rd in Martinzez. The Christie Rd exit off of Hwy 4 is ONLY accessible when traveling West to East. If you are coming from the East you will need to turn around as you pass Franklin Canyon Golf Course. Join us for refreshments, beer and snacks after the ride. A well-tuned mountain bike is always a must!
- We offer rides for ALL SKILL LEVELS, from novice to advanced. As so we will separate into 3 levels of riders: The beginner group, group C, will ride around 10 miles and 860ft of elevation gain; The intermediate group, group B, will ride around 12 miles and 1400ft of elevation gain; the advanced group, group A, will ride around 15+ miles and 2000+ ft of elevation gain. All rides are ‘no-drop’ rides (we won’t leave you behind or let you get lost) and are fully supported. A novice rider should be able to ride 10-12 miles ( including ~1000ft of climbing) on hilly narrow singletrack for 2.5 hrs.
- BTCEB (Bicycle Trails Council of East Bay) mission is to educate cyclists in responsible mountain biking, to advocate for appropriate access and to promote community among trail users so all may fully enjoy and preserve the natural spaces of the East Bay. Membership provides funding for our programs and gives us more influence with land managers in getting more access to more places. We work to get more trails made in the East Bay. We help maintain trails within East Bay parks (like Joaquin Miller and Crockett Hills and even Fernandez Ranch!) and we organize fun rides and events for the mountain bike community. Join us and help the cause!

- Ride Like a Girl – Women's MTB Ride – Location TBDJoaquin Miller Park, Oakland, CA
This is just a save-the-date placeholder. Details of the ride are posted a few weeks before the event. So ignore the location below.
But some things are certain: the mission of Ride Like a Girl is to have fun, learn new trails and meet other women (cis, trans and femme) who love to mountain bike. We’ll take care of you: these are stress-free rides where no one is left behind.
Please bring your mountain bike, obviously, in good working condition. (No ebikes, please. Ride Like a Girl is strictly muscle-powered.) Whether you’re running tubeless tires or not, please make sure you have a spare inner tube to fit your wheels, plenty of water and some food for the trail. We always hang out for a while after the ride, so bring along your favorite beverages and snacks if you feel like it. And a chair!
If you need a ride, or want to set up a carpool, leave a comment and we'll see what the group can come up with.
And please consider joining BTCEB. We are much more than a group that puts on rides. BTCEB tirelessly advocates for better bike access on trails in the East Bay and we need your support. Join today at https://btceb.org/join-us/.
If you have questions, ask 'em below and we’ll get right back to you.
