BIDA Contra Dance!

Details

We're having a *~special~* Double Dance event on Sunday May 21st, at 1950 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge MA!

Like so:
4:00-6:30 Advanced Contras!
6:30-7:30 Potluck: all welcome! bring food!
7:00: Beginner Lesson
7:30-10:30 Evening Dance, as always :)

Caller: Steve Zakon-Anderson
Music: Calluna: Eileen O’Grady, Gus Cantieni, & Jesse Ball

What do you mean, advanced? Should I come??
For the afternoon advanced session, Steve is going to be calling some trickier material and teaching less than usual. If you're comfortable doing a no-walkthrough, you should be good!

The potluck and evening dance is our regular programming, with an intro lesson at 7:15, and everyone and all welcome. This is time to bring your buddies who've never danced before! Bring someone new to contra dancing to the workshop and we'll give you both passes to get in free at a future dance!

BIDA needs new volunteers! Many of our pre-covid regular volunteers are no longer able to help out. If you are interested in being more involved with making BIDA the dance we all love, please reach out to us.

Each dance session is $5-20 on our usual sliding scale. So if you're planning to come to the regular dance, do the regular thing—and if you're planning to dance double, please pay double.

Bring someone new to Contra to the intro session and you both get passes for free admission to a future dance! Share the love.

Public Transportation (recommended): We are across the street from the Porter Square Red Line stop.
Parking: Free street parking (meters and residential are open to all on Sundays). The big parking lot has been known to tow.

Ok, here's the ✨Pandemic Special ✨ details.
We'll be requiring:
- Full vaccination, including a booster if you're eligible for one. We'll check cards at the door, so bring your card or a picture of it. We accept exceptions for those with Dr's notes, contact us at bida@bidadance.org in advance if this is you.
- Well-fitting high filtration masks. We will offer complimentary masks if you don't have one. more info here https://blog.bidadance.org/2022/05/requiring-high-filtration-masks.html
Optionally:
- anyone is welcome to sign up for our covid notifications mailing list, where we send out alerts if we are notified that someone who attended a dance tested positive https://www.bidadance.org/join
We will ventilate to the extent possible, but the Cambridge Masonic Hall is not a place where we'll be able to get as much air turnover as we would like.

the potluck will happen in the hall between dances. we have measured CO2 levels in the hall in the past and observed they fall rapidly during breaks, so we don't think this will appreciably increase covid risk for folks who attend the evening dance.

See you there!
