Data Science Sydney once again hosts a presentation by global data science superstar Xavier Conort. Xavier is a Kaggle Grandmaster, having ranked 1st on Kaggle for an extended period. He was also the Chief Data Scientist at DataRobot.
In this presentation he will share with us what he is doing at his new and exciting venture FeatureByte.
Abstract
Effective feature engineering is essential for achieving successful machine learning outcomes, but important signals within data are often missed. In this talk, Xavier will present his fresh and innovative approach to feature engineering ideation, exploring how to create features with different signal types, including timing, regularity, stability, diversity, and similarity. Using FeatureByte, a recently launched free and source-available feature platform that leverages popular data platforms like Snowflake, Spark, and DataBricks, Xavier will demonstrate the practical application of these techniques. Attendees can expect to gain valuable insights and techniques on how to creatively engineer features and unlock the full potential of their data for machine learning success.

Xavier is a visionary Data Scientist and co-founder of FeatureByte, a company dedicated to empowering data enthusiasts and simplifying feature pipelines. With over 25 years of experience with data, Xavier began his career as an actuary in the Insurance industry before transitioning to Data Science.
As a top-ranked Kaggle competitor, Xavier has consistently demonstrated his expertise in solving complex data problems. He also played an instrumental role in shaping and executing DataRobot's Data Science roadmap as the Chief Data Scientist before founding FeatureByte.
