Fintech platforms have come of age. Most of the Unicorns are fintech startups nowadays , and some taking less than 2 years to become a unicorn. Europe has also become the centre of gravity for fintech startups that are challengers to banking, asset management and traditional finance , with several unicorns emerging (Transferwise, Monzo, Revolut, N26, Klarna etc) that are giving a tough competition to banks. Decentralised Finance and Trustless ecosystems are once again finding home in Europe with most countries proactively coming up favourable regulation and enabling startup environment with regulatory sandboxes, ease of incorporation, ease of doing business etc.
We will take a look at the modern fintech platforms and marketplaces and the convergence of tech happening at the winning futuristic finance : namely Tokenisation, Artificial Intelligence, Fintech APIs, Smart Contracts, Robot Advisory, Digital Securities, Intelligent Chatbots, Cyber Security, and Platform Architecture. Two sided and multi sided platform networks are a phenomenon in and of themselves. There is not a fintech unicorn that is also not a platform network.
Tokenisation enables the platform networks by aligning incentives of founders, developers, community of users, investors and the platform itself, in a stark departure from private and centralised monopoly platforms that have gained a reputation for evil by jettisoning interests and privacy of the users, for the platform owner's gain.
Entire new ecosystems are emerging in the TOKEN Economy, some replicating the old familiar world of finance (such as centralised exchanges intermediary advisers, brokers and dealers, custodians) and some entirely new business streams such as artificial intelligence for platform maintenance and hygiene, smart contract auditors, decentralised peer to peer finance enabled by distributed ledger technology etc.
