Title : Missing Perspectives in Big Data Industry

Abstract: The speaker has been personally talking to a lot of people in the big data industry in many events and privately. He has also interacted with big data industry leaders and professionals. He has talked to companies in this industry to include those who focus on different systems and solutions.
This is the problem he is seeing: People are either familiar with server design at hardware level, or those who do big data are mostly Hadoop software types or data scientists. In all his efforts, he has not found those who are knowledgeable in the intersection of how big data will create special supply chain demands and performance demands in not only servers, but also data centers and the components that go into them like processors, Solid State Memories (SSD) memories. Additionally, there will be similar demands in networking, latency, cost etc.
The speaker will present and discuss the gaps in the industry.

Speaker Bio : Nick Kolegraff is lead data scientist for one of the worlds largest management consulting firms and founder of the data science linux project. Nick and his team are like seal team 6 of data science. They get inserted into Fortune 500 companies who think big data analytics might hold business promise. Nick and his team start with ugly data and little infrastructure. In a short span of time they work with executives to develop strategies around data science and analytics and then rapidly assemble and deploy the required solutions. Engagement with a wide variety of business problems and solutions has led Nick to hone his tool set for efficiency. He continues to post his open-source tool collection on Data Science Linux for the benefit of other data scientists. Nick holds a BS in statistics and a BA in computer science from University of Iowa.
