Come and join Big Mountain Adventures Denver on a fun, beautiful early summer hike. We'll be hiking about 9miles out-and-back with 2,198 ft elevation gain.

This out-and-back takes you through forest along South Boulder Creek, past Rogers Pass Lake, and up to beautiful Heart Lake near timberline — with optional views of Haystack Mountain and James Peak along the way.

Meet at trailhead: East Portal Trailhead (end of E Portland Rd near Moffat Tunnel)

📍 James Peak Wilderness, near Rollinsville, CO

I’ll be at the upper parking lot to welcome you with my dog Togo (my red-fur Vizsla 🐕❤️)! We’ll plan to start moving at 9:45am latest.

⚠️ What to know:
• This is rated HARD — significant elevation at altitude
We'll be hiking at about a 1-2 mph pace. The elevation gain will be about 2200 feet and should be OK for moderate hikers.

This is a "dog friendly" hike, if your leashed dog will keep up and is friendly with other dogs. Your dog is your responsibility! There is moose in the area!

After we conquer the lake hike, we’re planning to grab some delicious food nearby to refuel and relax 🍜😋
