Are All Religions Telling the Same Story?
Details
If there’s one God, why are there so many religions?
It’s a question a lot of us have carried, especially if you grew up in one tradition and started wondering about the others.
The Bahá’í writings offer an interesting answer: the world’s religions aren’t competitors, they’re chapters in the same story. The idea is that God has sent teachers throughout history, including Abraham, Krishna, Moses, Buddha, Jesus and Muhammad, each one giving people what they were ready for at the time. It’s a bit like school. Your first-grade teacher and your high school teacher don’t disagree. They just teach different things at different stages.
We’ll read a short text describing this concept & talk it over. Does that idea hold up for you? What do we make of everything that’s been done in religion’s name?
One line we’ll look at, from ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, is pretty direct: “Any religion which is not a cause of love and unity is no religion.”
Whatever your background, whether you’re religious, skeptical or somewhere in between, your take is welcome. See you soon!
