Hike & Picnic at Emerald Lake

Let's hike to Emerald Lake for picnic and fishing. Total hike is 8.9 miles, bring your appropriate shoes and layers, supposed to be sunny & 79°. We will be hiking to the lake then having a picnic and then some relaxing in the beautiful scenery. Bring your fly rod!

The donkeys will be wearing their pack saddles, so they can carry your lunch and a few other items. Be weight conscious as I'd like to keep each donkey carrying under 60lbs. I.e. bring your lightweight chair or blanket, try to limit to 20lbs or less.
Please carry your own water. I will have a few extra items such as a first aid kit etc.

I estimate the donkeys will be able to do each leg in 2-3hrs. This will take up most of the day. As a group we can decide how long to stay at the lake.

Hike elevation starts at 7100' and gets up to about 9200'.

Directions to the Trailhead

From Bozeman, drive on S 19th Ave for approximately 6.5 miles. Turn left onto Hyalite Canyon Road, and then bear left at the Y at the end of the road. From there, follow the road to the East Fork Hyalite Trailhead.

I personally have not been on this hike, but the trails look wide and steadily uphill. We should have good clearance around other hikers, dogs etc.
