Join us for our September Club Meeting as we welcome Pedro Valencia—underwater explorer, scuba diving instructor, underwater photographer, videographer, and educator based in Cozumel, Mexico!
Pedro has been diving since the age of 16 and has spent years exploring the underwater world, from tiny macro life to the incredible creatures encountered during blackwater dives. With a background in digital design and animation, he uses photography and video to share the remarkable life he discovers beneath the surface.
𓊝 ABOUT THE TALK: The Ocean After Dark — Exploring the Blackwater World
Every night in Cozumel, once the reef quiets down, something wild happens in the open water. Larval fish, jellies, pelagic octopus, squid, and other fascinating creatures rise from the deep.
Pedro will take us into the mysterious world of blackwater diving, sharing who these animals are, how divers find them in the open ocean, and what years of photographing them have taught him about the incredible connections within our marine ecosystem.
He’ll also explore what’s putting these creatures at risk—and why protecting the smallest things in the sea might matter more than anything else we do down there. 🌊💙
