Join us for our October Club Meeting as we welcome back Chris Paparo (Fish Guy Photos), a Long Island native, award-winning photographer, scientist, writer, and lecturer!
Chris has spent more than three decades exploring and documenting the natural wonders of Long Island Sound and the surrounding coastal environment. ๐ ABOUT THE TALK: SOFO Shark Research Program: Unveiling the Secrets of Long Island's Sharks
Long Island's coastal waters are home to an impressive diversity of sharks, yet much about these fascinating animals remains a mystery. In 2015, a dedicated team of researchers deployed the first satellite tag on a juvenile great white shark off Long Island's south shore. A collaboration with OCEARCH over the following two summers led to 20 more white sharks being tagged off Montauk. ๐ฆ
Chris will share the ongoing work of the Shark Research and Education Program at the South Fork Natural History Museum, and how it's helping us better understand one of the ocean's most fascinating apex predators, right here in our own waters. ๐๐
๐ฆ Come dive into the secrets of Long Island's sharks and see what the research is revealing!
