Data science has its roots in both computer science and statistics, although it is distinct from each discipline.
In this talk, Barton Poulson presents an overview of the field of data science and explains how it is not only a technical field but also humanistic enterprise. To realize the full potential of data science, its practitioners must have a mastery of its computational aspects but should also have an understanding and appreciation of the ways that meaning is made and communicated in the process of analysis, something that data science shares with the arts and humanities.
