Abstract:
In a world of big data, leveraging various data sources is key to unlocking insights and driving innovation. This lecture will explore the false sense of security of sample data used in early learning phases to the complexities of handling real-world data at scale. Attendees will gain insight into the practical differences between training on sample datasets and processing actual data, including key considerations for data cleaning, validation, and scalability. The session will also highlight the risks and challenges associated with integrating third-party data, such as issues of data quality and implications of “rounding errors”, and security. By addressing these critical topics, the lecture aims to equip participants with the knowledge needed to navigate the diverse and often challenging landscape of real-world big data applications. This talk is designed for data professionals who are interested in practical insights and want to deepen their understanding of responsible and effective data integration
practices in the big data space.
Bio
Michael Pritchard started working with computers in the mid-1970’s, when computers used punch cards and teletype terminals. Over the years Michael has seen the evolution of computers and adapted from large room-sized computers to powerful fit-in-the-palm controllers. As technology changed, Michael adapted and learned new technologies when they became available. Michael Pritchard started his first
programming job while in High School and worked in the technical industry up to about 4 years ago when he switched to teaching computer classes. Prior to AI being a “thing”, Michael worked with large dataset, processing, integrating, and accessing data via website and desktop applications. His favorite job was breaking into the medical database.
Currently Michael is the degree chair for the Masters of Applied Artificial Intelligence at Neumont College of Technology.
