Back to ancient history this month, with the behemoth of the ancient world that was Egypt. Although we have talked about this ancient empire in previous sessions, such is it's magnitude and longevity, the subject easily warrants a more focused look. Egypt was home to one of the oldest civilisations that lasted a phenomenal 3 millennia in one form or other along the banks of the Nile. It had a major influence on other subsequent civilisations in the region, including Ancient Greece & Rome.

According to Google, the first half of this period can be broken down as follows:

  • Old Kingdom (c. 2686-2181 BC): Known as the "age of pyramids," this period saw the construction of the Giza pyramids.
  • Middle Kingdom (c. 2055-1650 BC): A time of unification and expansion, with a focus on literature and art.
  • New Kingdom (c. 1550-1070 BC): A golden age of empire building and monumental construction, including the temples at Karnak and Luxor.

***Rather than a presentation or lecture, the idea will be for attendees to do their own prior research which they can then contribute with at the event. You are also welcome to attend of course without researching or having anything to share.***

List of topics for potential individual research are under the first sheet of this file:

### If you would like to research and talk about one of these topics (or any other relevant one of your choice), please advise which in the comments below of on the Google Sheet linked!
