This is the second of 3 parts, examining the world outside Europe c1600, prior to the full onslaught of European colonialism.
The state of Africa at this time is probably not commonly understood in the West, but it was a land of many organised kingdoms of great wealth and knowledge in several of them.
According to Google AI:
"In 1600, Africa was a continent of diverse, powerful kingdoms and complex societies, experiencing significant shifts due to intensifying transatlantic slave trade, growing European interaction, and internal dynamics like the rise of the Oyo Empire and challenges to states like Kongo and Ndongo by internal conflicts and Portuguese influence. West Africa saw flourishing trade and powerful states such as Oyo and Benin, while Central Africa faced destabilization from drought and the slave trade, and the East Coast's Swahili culture blended Bantu and Arabic influences, all amidst existing local traditions and trade networks. ."
