What we’re about
This Meetup group is for anyone interested in cycling for friendship, fitness and motivation.
We look forward to. 50 km+, scenic, bike friendly routes with hills and easy trails. We enjoy stopping midway for lunch.
Hybrid, Gravel and E-bikes are best.
Our rides are intermediate, and we celebrate when we average 20 kph. Our rides generally average 17 kph.
We are not roadies that love flat rides to impress on Strava.
Most of our rides start near Skytrain stations to encourage non drivers to attend. Exceptions are Bakerview Park in White Rock and Peace Arch Park for our American rides scheduled during better times. Both have very good transit service with the 321 buses from King George Skytrain and the 351 bus from Bridgeport Skytrain. Some members carpool as well.
A "No Show" is someone who meets all of these
- RSVP'd yes,
- did not attend
- did not comment before the actual event start.
A first time attendee who “No Shows” will forfeit their membership. They can always reapply.
We wait a standard 10 minutes for those late. We do not wait for "No Shows" with history. Greater Vancouver is large with possible delays are common due to our outdated transportation infrastructure. Members have come as far as Chilliwack, Blaine, WA and Bowen Island on ride day.
Be kind in your discussions. Anything Negative or your concerns should be sent to the member. Negative comments, including reports on fellow members and broadcast to all will be deleted and the offender will be banned. This has only happened once!
Anyone that rides unsafe will be evaluated individually. Anyone in the extreme will be banned as they are a danger to everyone attending. This is extremely rare; 2 bans in 10 years.
Think of everyone when you ride and not yourself. Always tell someone if you’re leaving the ride early. Think of the group and not yourself!
I hope everyone is sitting down as you read this, “We are almost a no Drop Group". In 15 years of riding, I have dropped 3 cyclists. The first instance we were 2 hours past our finish time and still cycling on an Easter ride. We put the cyclist on the bus and for 2 weeks I was inundated with messages with why and who suggested. A third of the ride had already left by lunch. Others had a late Easter feast.
If a first timer in doubt, I always encourage and say, "Come on out, you will never know if you don't give it a try".
My group is always looking for event organizers. However, you must have attended a few events to qualify as one.
Please include a facial snapshot when applying to join this group. Don't worry, this group is private. To maintain your membership, you must attend at least one ride in 2 years. Of course, you can always reapply if you lose your membership.
