Monday Gravel Ride – Top of Big Bug Mesa

Details
I'm stealing this posting from David as improvements have been made to the route. This ride starts on Walker road pavement but turns to gravel when we hit Big Bug Mesa Road, and then continues past Five Points to the end of the road at the top. It's an interesting and fun ride through the changing terrain beyond Five Points (our usual turnaround spot), into the pines and a slightly cooler environment.
Starting from the parking area at the South Shore of Lynx Lake, we'll take the loop out and head up Walker Road for approximately five miles to the turn-off to Big Bug. Then it's up on the gravel for an eventual regrouping at Five Points and onward for about six more miles to the top. I used to avoid this section, but I understand it's been cleared and is now a smooth gravel road to the overlook. Then, after enjoying the view from the edge of the mesa, we'll retrace our tire tracks back down, returning to the South Shore via Walker.
The total distance of this out-and-back trip is about 32 miles, with about 2,800 feet of fairly steady climbing, mostly on the way out. Helmets are required and lights are recommended. Mountain bikes and e-bikes are welcome, in addition to gravel bikes.
