What we’re about
Established in 1999, the Rockville Bicycle Advisory Committee (RBAC) is a group of volunteers of all bicycling levels. As a committee, we make recommendations to the City of Rockville Mayor and City Council and staff on bicycling issues from policies to implementation to infrastructure to improving conditions for biking in the City.
As part of these goals RBAC volunteers lead group rides to showcase the infrastructure, connectivity and other cycling features such as parking, signage and bikeshare stations. Our rides are designed to show cyclists how navigate our City streets and how Rockville earned a bronze level for being a League of American Bicyclists (LAB) Bicycle-Friendly Community. With these community bike rides, we hope you discover the bikeable routes in and round the City and join us to help promote safe cycling in Rockville.
More about the RBAC can be found on the CIty’s website: http://www.rockvillemd.gov/index.aspx?nid=327
There is a $5 per year membership to help pay for the cost of the Meetup and group liability insurance. Thanks for the support!

See all- Let's Roll to the Donut Hole!1600 Research Blvd, Rockville, MD
Join us for a casual and sweet 9-mile ramble around Rockville as we make our way to the Fallsgrove neighborhood for a treat!
RIDE DETAILS:
We'll begin our ride from the Westat parking lot located at 1600 Research Blvd in Rockville. After crossing the Friendship Bridge over I-270, we'll ramble through the communities of Rose Hill and New Mark Commons using little-known paths and cut-throughs, including a fun hidden tunnel under busy Maryland Avenue.We'll then hop on the Carl Henn Millennium Trail and follow it for several miles along Wootton Parkway, climbing a few mild to moderate hills in the process. Our reward for that workout? DONUTS! We'll stop at the Krispy Kreme shop in Fallsgrove Village Center for a sweet treat, then ride that sugar rush for the final mile and a half back to our start point.

• HELMETS ARE REQUIRED for all riders on every ride.
• We strongly recommend you bring a water bottle, spare tube, cell phone, ID card, and cash or credit card for emergencies.
• Rain at start cancels the ride; Wet pavement does not. - Ride Rockville's Bike Beltway and have some waffles!389 E Gude Dr, Rockville, MD
Join us for a ride on Rockville's Bike Beltway - the Carl Henn Millennium Trail, a 10.6-mile shared-use path that loops around the City. We welcome riders of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds. Come find out why bicycling in Rockville has so much to offer.
We will be starting at Grandma's Ice Cream and Waffles for this family-friendly, casual-paced ride (averaging around 10 MPH) . The route is mostly flat with a couple mild to moderate hills. We provide a ride leader and a "sweep" (a rider who remains behind the group).
There is plenty of parking at this local business located on E Gude Drive and Calhoun Drive. After the ride, we will have the opportunity to purchase some tasty eats!

Join us for a casual 8-mile loop thru quiet neighborhoods with a stop at Downtown Crown. This was originally a Tour de Capital Bikeshare stations but the Crown neighborhood is probably the highlight now. We will still see some CapShare stations along the way as we ride thru Fallsgrove, Travaille and Medical Center areas of northwest Rockville. We will be using a combination of shared-use paths, bike lanes (including the Great Seneca Transit Network), some sidewalks and streets to enter Gaithersburg. We will stop at Downtown Crown for a treat if you like. Cinnaholic and La Madeline will be open for some quick snacks.

The Rockville Bike Advisory Committee meets the first Wednesday of each month from 7 pm to 9 pm.
This month we would like to meet in-person for a potluck!
We'll cover our usual agenda and take some time to connect over good food. Whether it’s your signature dish or a store-bought favorite, we’d love for everyone to contribute something to the table.
Please RSVP and let us know what you’ll be sharing. Let us know what you’re bringing (so we don’t end up with 12 bags of chips 😄).

Since its creation, our volunteer committee has held regularly scheduled meetings throughout the year, carried out its mandated tasks, and has become an important and valuable resource to the City on bicycling issues. The active participation of the RBAC is vital to Rockville's continued success in implementing the Bikeway Master Plan Update and in improving conditions for bicycling in the City.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D67FY8yFuU8&list=UUcfUJA6KhJVfIXr54S9us3Q
In 2019, the Rockville Mayor and City Council adopted a complete streets policy (to provide facilities that serve all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users and motorists) and in 2018 they adopted a Vision Zero resolution (to reduce traffic-related deaths to zero by 2030). RBAC members are working with the City to help with these goals and serve as liaisons to interested residents.
RBAC's Mission (http://www.rockvillemd.gov/index.aspx?nid=327):
The committee's mandate for action includes the following tasks:•Assist in the development of the City's bicycle and pedestrian specific policies, as well as other policies that affect the conditions for bicycling in the City;
•Oversee the implementation of the City’s Bikeway Master Plan Update and report progress toward completion to the Mayor and City Council;
•Review current and proposed CIP projects to ensure bicycle needs are incorporated into design and construction when appropriate; and
•Deliver updates on the needs and desires of bicyclists in the community, with recommendations for action to the Mayor and City Council.
