FYI ONLY: Ride to Support the New Bike Lanes on Old Georgetown Road

Details
Please note: This is NOT a formal Bike Rockville ride. It is an FYI post to encourage you to attend an advocacy ride this Sunday in support of recently installed protected bike lanes on Old Georgetown Road near Bethesda.
BACKGROUND
After two teenagers were struck and killed while biking on Old Georgetown Road’s narrow sidewalks, the Maryland State Highway Administration repurposed the curbside traffic lane for protected bike lanes on a 3.1-mile stretch of MD-187 near Bethesda last month. Drivers opposed to the lane restrictions have launched an intense campaign to have the new safety improvements removed.
THE RIDE
This Sunday, the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA), MoCo Families for Safe Streets, and the Action Committee for Transit are coordinating a group bike ride or walk along the new lanes to show support and to urge MDOT SHA to keep the lanes in place and to improve them.
REGISTRATION
For more information and to register for the event, please visit the WABA website here: https://waba.org/blog/2023/01/walk-roll-ride-for-the-old-georgetown-rd-safety-improvements/
Although this is NOT an official Bike Rockville ride, we look forward to seeing many of you this Sunday for this important cause. Thank you!
