Please note - You will need to book your own accommodation and travel arrangements.

I'm heading down on the Friday to Kerry. Then on Saturday we'll set out early and start the climb of Carrauntoohil. We will be taking on the Caher route. Approx. 14km long, 1038m elevation and should take 8 hours.

Route info:
This is strenuous and beautiful (14 km) walking route to the summits ofCarrauntoohil (1,040m) and Caher (1,001m) mountains on the Macgillycuddy Reeks from Lack Road, County Kerry, Ireland. This is one of the safest and straightforward routes to the summit of Carrauntoohil, ideal for first timers.

Just a disclaimer: This is a very challenging climb. There are no easy or safe routes up Carrauntoohil - only easier or safer routes compared to others. A good level of fitness is needed and you climb at your own risk.

STRICTLY NO FLIP FLOPS, RUNNERS, TRAINERS OR JEANS! YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO CLIMB. Good pair of hiking boots with ankle supports are essential and a good pair of hiking socks - Comfortable clothes - shorts are allowed if the weather is nice. Even if the weather is nice, the weather can change dramatically, so still bring thermal top, wet gear (trousers and jacket). Gloves with rubber grips are essential for grip and to protect your hands as the rocks can be sharp. Emergency equipment - head light, spare batteries, hi-vis etc. Sun screen and food, we cannot forget the food. A water bladder is recommended.

I will edit this as I think of things. If you have any questions, please leave a comment below and I will answer them.

Smile! It should be fun :)
