Wilimington Riverfront to Old New Castle

Details

This is a 20 mile trip along the Wilmington Riverfront (Markell Trail) to New Castle where they will be having the Farmer's market and the tall ship Kalmar Nyckel will be berthed. The trip will be an out and back encompassing two paved trails with a small road section interconnecting (0.5 mi). The ride is all paved so road bikes are acceptable.

The road section will be in historic New Castle DE where they will be having their annual "A Day in Old New Castle" celebration . Along the way, we will pass the Dupont Environmental Education center where riders can disembark and take a boardwalk stroll along the Christina River and a wildlife refuge. At the end, riders can gather for refreshments at the Iron Hill Brewery for a snack. Please have bike helmets and road reflectors for safety.

Also note that there will likely be some crowded areas in New Castle so your brakes should be in good working order and you should be comfortable riding in pedestrian traffic for a bit.

Please make sure you have a BIKE LOCK in case you want to tour the Kalmar Nyckel tall ship, Dupont Environmental Center, Farmers Market or join us after at Iron Hill.
