The most up to date information for this meeting is available here https://github.com/pstew/biodataclub/blob/master/meetings/september_2019/README.md .
The purpose of this session is to learn the basics of Unix systems, to understand how clients connect to servers (basic networking), how we can use linux commands (and regular expressions) to look for specific data, and other useful commands.
For Windows users, they will need to download PuTTY to be able to connect to a linux server. They can either download the MSI (‘Windows Installer’) version, or if they don’t have permission to install software, they can download the standalone version.
Mac users will be able to use the built-in Terminal application.
About the Club: The club is an informal group at Moffitt dedicated to promoting a fun and supportive culture for learning biological data science. Our meetings are intended for all levels of computational backgrounds. We meet once a month in the Moffitt Stabile Research Building on the USF campus. The public is encouraged to attend!
