Bionic eyes to see better, implanting chips for superhuman thinking, new legs to run faster…

It’s bodyhacking - And while it may seem like science fiction, it’s here and it’s happening now.

One of our members & a local, Tamara Banbury, is on the leading edge of the bodyhacking movement and on top of what’s to come in the near future (esp regarding social rights).

For March, we’re lucky to have Tamara present a recap on some of the people she met and products she learned about during a recent bodyhacking conference in Austin, Texas (of which she also presented at).

BDYHAX https://bodyhackingcon.com/ recently held their second conference in Austin and was attended by over 400 people with all levels of interest in all areas of body hacking.

Some were there for the wearable tech fashion show, others for nutrition and biofeedback hacks. The extreme end of grinders and cyborgs were represented by both people who identify as cyborgs and startup companies that make the products you can order and implant in your body today.

There were also panels discussing ethics, regulations, and other social concerns faced by the body hacking community (an area of keen interest for Tamara & an extremely interesting topic).

Join us at BioHackYYC to hear what is going on in other cities around the world and to contribute to the open discussion afterward about any type of body hacking that interests you.

About Tamara:

Tamara Banbury has been interested in body modification and augmentation for the last several years. She has been researching how body modification and cyborgism is understood from a social science perspective and how people identify with the technology they incorporate into their bodies.

Larning about body modification while studying for her Anthropology degree, Tamara became curious about the types of public policy that will need to be changed and updated by the government in order to protect the rights of those who identify as cyborg.

Check out more of Tamara’s upcoming work on her site (it’s a work in progress right now, but she’s got the ball rolling): http://www.cyborgpolicy.com/

The day of cyborg rights is not far off, for as many are currently saying – We Are All Cyborg.

That time may already be here…
