Howdy Biohackers.

Apologies for the late notice.

For our next get-together, next Wednesday, Aug 2nd, we’re going to present something a bit different… Feldenkrais.

I (Burt) will be honest, I had no idea what this was till I Google’d it. Then I got the inside scoop from our presenter, Ryan Hoffman. In his words:

SYNOPSIS:

It seems everyone is marketing 'the ultimate' consumer product. Many of these quick fixes substitute for long-term solutions that reflect substantive personal growth. Whether it's modifying our posture, body language, habits, or simply functioning more comfortably, there's a bevy of "ultimate" quick fixes.

Feldenkrais Method is based on the most proximate way to improve one's functioning.

Based on the human developmental process of sensory-motor learning, the process initially available to us as babies, we can hack some of our deepest functional movement patterns.

It's not energy work, alternative medicine, or unassailable ancient wisdom. It's an educational method based on the work of Moshe Feldenkrais. (See feldenkrais-method.org/iff/standards-of-practice).

This one-hour seminar will motivate some of the core concepts of Feldenkrais Method, which we'll then explore with a short (twenty minute) movement lesson. No athletic background or clothing is required. The lesson will mostly be in a chair.

ABOUT RYAN HOFFMAN:

Ryan has a PhD in Biochemistry, 15 years of research experience, and has taught introductory Biology at the college level. He’s just relocated to Calgary (where he’s from) to teach Feldenkrais.

Check out more about Ryan at his site http://feldguide.com/.

Thanks & we look forward to seeing you there.
