In the Depths of the Genome (Bought the Book - Hard to Read)
Details
Dear group,
we are happy to announce the second talk by our core member Keith Beech on November 18, titled "In the Depths of the Genome (Bought the Book - Hard to Read)".
In the talk, Keith will consider some of the ways in which the results of deep sequencing are being interpreted by deep learning systems to provide a better understanding of the pathological consequences of genetic variation in humans.
There is a quote by Eric Lander, mathematician and geneticist, who said, "Genome: Bought the book; hard to read. Said to have the answer to everything, absolutely everything. The only problem is: there’s no index!"
In his presentation, Keith will talk about how we are using computers to develop the missing index.
At the beginning of the meetup, we will also briefly cover the updates on biotechnology and medicine.
