Web Series: DMV Public Policy Related To COVID-19

Details

This is the Public Policy Meeting of our new web series. Please see our other events for the Business Operations and Scientific Research focused meetings.

The target audience for this meeting is Public Policy Makers. The meeting will focus on public policy related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

How is lobbying changing, what are the effects of the new stimulus package, how are Americans responding to policy recommendations? Please come ready to share the answers to some of these questions with your fellow Public Policy Professionals.

The specific topics, agenda, and content for each meeting will be crowdsourced. This means that we are relying on you our members to contribute to these meetings to make them a success. We are looking for volunteers. Please post on the message board if you would like to present, have a specific question or would like to be the host for the meeting. As with all things in life, you get out what you put into it.

Background on Web Series:

The entire world has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting restrictions on individuals’ activities and business operations. The responsibility of tracking the progression of the pandemic, developing and implementing public policy and conducting scientific research towards the development of a vaccine disproportionately rests on the shoulders of many members of this group. Our members include virologists, healthcare and life science public policymakers, elected and appointed government officials, industry professionals and a small army of scientific researchers. We have members from NIH, USAMRIID, FDA, EPA, CDC, USDA, the Legislative Branch of the Federal Government, Academia and Healthcare. In short, many of us are the professionals tasked with responding to the pandemic and we are the professionals with the skill sets necessary to accomplish the job. With that in mind, we would like to announce three new web-based meetings for our group members to communicate with each other and progress our collective responsibility of responding to the multitude of effects of COVID-19.

  1. Business Operations; This meeting will target Industry Professionals in the DMV. We will be discussing which businesses are closed, operating in a limited capacity, pivoting their research, experiencing a loss of revenue and experiencing an increase in revenue.

  2. Scientific Research; This meeting will target Life Science Researchers. How has your research been affected and how do you mitigate it, what avenues do you see towards the development of a vaccine, what new grants and resources are available as a result, how to pivot from other research areas to infectious diseases.

  3. Public Policy; This meeting will target our Public Policy Professionals. How is lobbying changing, what are the effects of the new stimulus package, how are Americans responding to policy recommendations?

Sincerely,
