Updated Date- James River Adventure - Buttermilk Trail (Richmond)
Details
Due to a conflict in my schedule — please note the new date for this hike. Thank you!!
**********
Join me on an urban Richmond hike. The Buttermilk Trail hugs the south bank of the James River, offering stunning river views, rocky outcroppings, and that rare feeling of being deep in nature while still inside the city.
At around 5 miles with 417 feet of elevation gain, this is our longest hike of the spring series but also our most gradual since the North Bank Trail hike in February, thus a great confidence builder for anyone working toward bigger adventures. The trail winds through Forest Hill and along the riverbank all the way toward Belle Isle, with the James as your constant companion.
What to expect**:**
A mix of rugged rocky sections and smooth riverside paths. Late April means the James will be lively and wildflowers will be popping
What to bring:
Sturdy hiking shoes or trail runners, water, sunscreen, and a snack. The terrain can be uneven so trekking poles are welcome.
Dogs are ok, just note there will be mountain bikers on this trail, and in many sections it is narrow.
Pace**: Moderate, social pace welcoming to all experience levels.**
Parking: Meet at the parking lot off W 21st -22nd & Riverside Drive near Canoe Run Park
After the hike we can grab a drink and lunch at the Veil.
