Join Julian H & Karen C, as we explore the fields and wetlands of Columbia County while walking the east end of the Crown Zellerbach Trail. The path is level and almost entirely paved. It offers views of fields, marshes, sloughs, ponds and hedgerows on its way to the Multnomah Channel. Round trip will be about 2.5 miles. The grade is generally flat on asphalt. There are 3 bathrooms on the route. Bring a snack and dress for the weather. Bring binoculars (or tell me if you need to borrow a pair). Spotting scopes are useful here, so bring one if you have it. Sparrows, raptors and waterfowl should be abundant this time of year.

Join Julian Hwa, at Whitaker Ponds. This location is a local favorite for birders. This is a mid-winter outing, with wintering Geese, Sparrows and possible shore birds. The grade is generally flat, with packed gravel paths. There are some uneven patches, with root obstacles along the route. There is one bathroom at the parking lot.
The riparian habitat at Whitaker Ponds is the perfect place to hear resident songbirds such as the Song Sparrow, Bewick's Wren, American Robin, and Spotted Towhee giving us many opportunities to learn their songs and calls. This walk is geared for beginning birders. Please let me know if you need binoculars.

Join leader Julian H & Ron E, at Vancouver Lake Park. Scope the lake for water birds then explore the riparian woodland for Winter migrants. Meet at 8am at parking lot in front of middle bathrooms and we should be done by 12pm. Directions from I-5 north: take Exit 1-D (4th Plan Blvd), go west on 4th Plain through Vancouver onto SR-501 (Lower River Rd). After 3.5 miles on SR-501, continue straight for 0.6 miles to Vancouver Lake Park. Beginners welcome. $3 parking fee required.

Join Julian Hwa, to search for Winter migrants including shorebirds, waterfowl and raptors for an outing of birding. Meet in the parking lot of the Fernhill Wetlands at 8:00 AM. Fernhill Wetlands are off Rt 47 just south of Forest Grove. Take Rt 47 south from Forest Grove and turn left onto Fern Hill Road, continue 1/4 mile to the parking lot on the left.
More folks would like to go on Audubon Outings than we can accommodate. So if you have attended two or more Outings at this location this year, we would ask you to let another birder go instead. Thank you!
