Fieldcraft For Beginners At Whitaker Ponds

Fieldcraft is a handy skill so we don’t bother the birds. Key concepts are knowing which species are skittish and which are not, body movement, and using surrounding habitat to blend in. And we’ll be at Whitaker, where we’re sure to get a good bird list!

Whitaker is one of the best spots in Portland to easily and consistently see waterfowl like ducks and grebes up close. The woods and edge habitat multiply the chickadee, warbler, and kinglet contingent. And the fields have sparrows and swallows.

As we’re just at the cusp of fall migration, we may turn up something we’ve not seen in months. Join me and fellow birders to see what’s going on there Saturday the 22nd!

We’ll meet in the gazebo next to the parking lot. Everyone is welcome on this bird walk!
