Birding & Beers has been thriving since May 2012. Crazy, huh? Crazy good.

To celebrate our anniversary month, we’re heading to one of the very best birding hotspots in Denver during late spring: Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge. Yes, we’ve birded here before — and yes, we’ll be back again in early July — but this outing will be a little different.

This time, we’re spending the entire morning exploring Havana Ponds along with Lakes Ladora and Mary, taking our time to look for all the avian highlights late May can offer. Expect a mix of migrants, waterbirds, raptors, and whatever surprises decide to show up.

Because this is our anniversary celebration, this outing will be longer than our typical Birding & Beers gathering, so plan accordingly: bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and anything else you’ll want for a full morning outside.

After birding, we’ll head over to Station 26 Brewing for some well-earned social time. The birds may bring us together, but the community we’ve built over the years is what makes this group so special.

As you may have heard, Birding & Beers is supporting Denver Audubon’s Bird-a-thon this year with our team, Pints & Plovers. I’m asking everyone who joins us to consider making a $10 donation — just a little more than the cost of a pint plus tip — to support the team and bird conservation efforts. You can donate here.
Details:
9:00 am — Meet at the Havana Ponds parking lot. If that lot is full, additional parking is available to the west near the bathrooms.
12:00 pm — Head to Station 26 Brewing. There won’t be a food truck yet, so plan to pick something up on the way or pack a lunch to enjoy there.
