About us
Are you a birder, birdwatcher, or just curious about birdwatching?
Come explore with the Northern Arizona Audubon Society (NAAS) in the Flagstaff, Sedona, and Verde Valley areas. Northern and Central Arizona contain all the major biomes and offer some of the best inland birding in the United States.
Our bird walks and programs are organized and led by NAAS with the help of dedicated volunteers and knowledgeable bird guides. Events are always free and open to everyone—we’re an inclusive group that welcomes people of all backgrounds, lifestyles, and perspectives. Whether you’re a beginner looking for tips or an experienced birder seeking new sightings, come along and we’ll show you the way (and have fun doing it!).
To make these free events possible, NAAS provides honoraria for our guides and covers program costs. Donations are always appreciated—they help us support our guides and sustain our mission: to engage people in appreciating and protecting birds and the places they need.

Bird Walk | Marshall Lake, Flagstaff
Marshall Lake, Lake Mary Rd and FR128, Flagstaff, az, USBird Walk | Marshall Lake, Flagstaff
Spring migration is in full swing! Join us for a morning at Marshall Lake, where wetlands meet pine forest, offering a chance to spot fleeting migrants, listen for marsh birds calling, and enjoy the sights and sounds of breeding birds in full song. Expect a variety of warblers, vireos, and maybe even early tanagers and orioles.
Date: Saturday, April 25, 2026
Time: 7:30–10:30 AM
Meeting Point: Pull over and wait for everyone to gather after turning onto Marshall Lake Road from Lake Mary Road. We will proceed from there.
Directions: Marshall Lake Road is on the left approximately 9.4 miles from the Circle K off Lake Mary Road and I-17.
What to Bring: Binoculars, cameras, water, hat, comfortable walking shoes, and sun block. Appropriate clothing layers for comfort. Walking poles if you need them. Although it is pretty flat, the road itself may be bumpy.About the Location: Marshall Lake is the site of Marsh Bird surveys that take place later in the breeding season. The amount of bird life is usually tied to the amount of water the lake has had in the winter. We will especially be listening for Marsh Birds: Virginia Rail, Sora and hoping for actual sightings. We should definitely catch views of Grace’s, Townsend’s, and any other warblers. Cassin’s and Plumbeous Vireo could be seen in the same outing. Since migration is happening a little early this year, we may have both Tanagers and Orioles. Who knows what other birds that come up from Central and South American may be there waiting your arrival?
Effort: We will walk approximately two miles on a fairly flat road; although it could have small bumps.
Facilities: No official facilities… only “pink” or “blue” trees are available for bio-breaks.
