Wednesday, Oct. 8, 6pm: Webinar Introducing Pinyon Jay Community Science. You don’t need to be an expert birder to help scientists better understand current movements and behaviors of Pinyon Jays. Audubon partnered with the Great Basin Bird Observatory to launch a far-reaching community science effort now spanning six states and over 1000 Pinyon Jay records. Learn how you can help us by using your phone to record both jay sightings and pinyon pine cone status.

Curious about doing surveys but can’t make the webinar? No Problem! Follow the instructions below, and reach out with questions!

  1. Sign up for the community science data hub HERE, and create a username with the ending “_ASW” (This stands for Audubon Southwest and tags you to be added to our group). Note: we add people manually, so please allow 1-2 business days. You will NOT be notified. While you are waiting, check out the training materials available on the hub site.
  2. Add Esri’s Survey 123 app on your phone (it’s free and available from your favorite app store)
  3. Log in to the app using your data hub username and password. Our data intake form will auto-magically appear for you to use. Cool, huh?
  4. Note that you can survey wherever you like in Pinyon-Juniper habitat, for as little as 20 minutes in order verify absence

Thanks for your interest in Pinyon Jays. Happy fall & all the best—the Audubon SW Conservation Team
