A proper birding adventure to one of Barcelona's most special wetland reserves.

On April 25th, we're heading south — to the Espai Natural del Remolar · Filipines in Viladecans, a quiet coastal wetland at the mouth of the Llobregat river and one of the most important bird habitats in the region. Think marshes, pine forest, beach, and a whole lot of birds. We will be walking — a lot. Come prepared, come curious, and come ready to slow down and look carefully. 🌿

📍 Meeting Point

  • Where we'll meet to take bus 46: In front of Vivari bakery Gran Via https://maps.app.goo.gl/BqL8GEMoh8jY1M8R7. If you have a car, you can just meet us there or see you around :)
  • 📅 Saturday, 25 April · ⏰ 8:00am (we’ll leave around 8:10am)

We'll gather here before taking the public bus together to the reserve.

👉 Getting there:
We're going by public transport and on foot — the low-cost, no-fuss way. The 46 autobus will take us from Plaça d'Espanya towards Viladecans/the Airport.
🚗🚲 Prefer to drive or cycle?
You're very welcome to make your own way there and meet us at the reserve entrance instead.

🌿 About the Reserve
Espai Natural del Remolar · Filipines is a protected natural space in the Llobregat Delta — a rare coastal wetland on Barcelona's doorstep. It's a key stopover for migratory birds and home to a rich variety of resident species.

The reserve includes three itineraries we may explore:
1. Pineda del Remolar — pine woodland trail
2. Maresma de les Filipines — marshland and wetland habitat
3. Platja del Remolar — coastal path to the beach

Opening hours on the day: 9:00–19:00 ✅

🥾 What to bring

  • Comfortable walking shoes (we mean it — lots of walking!)
  • Water and snacks
  • Binoculars if you have them (Please bring one - you'll need it as we'll go inside different bird hides and lots of flying birds around here!)
  • A field guide or Merlin app on your phone
  • Layers — it can be breezy near the coast
  • Sun protection
  • 📝 Bring a pen — I’ll share a simple way to start recording your bird sightings

🐦 What might we see?
The Llobregat Delta is exceptional for waders, herons, egrets, ducks, and migratory passerines in spring. April is a wonderful time — migration is well underway. Expect surprises. 🌍

🤍 A few things to know
This is a free, community walk — just show up as you are
We walk at a relaxed pace, with plenty of stops to watch and listen
No birding experience needed — all levels welcome
You can leave whenever you want!
Also — full honesty — I don’t know this area deeply either, especially during migration season. I’ll be learning and birding alongside you. With the amount of gear I'll be bringing unfortunately I can't take any extra sets of binoculars so please make sure to get your own for this trip! 🙏🏼

⚠️ Heads up for drivers
Someone mentioned recent car break-ins in the area — please don’t leave valuables visible.

See you!
