What can you see?

September is an especially interesting time because of autumn migration. You may see:

• Green Sandpiper — one of the highlights of Turvey.
• Curlew Sandpiper and Ruff — possible during autumn passage.
• Northern Pintail — beginning to arrive in late September.
• Black-tailed Godwit
• Dunlin
• Redshank
• Wigeon and Teal
• Light-bellied Brent Goose — arriving from the Arctic in autumn.
• Kingfisher
• Water Rail
• Merlin and Peregrine Falcon
• Snipe
• Buzzard and Sparrowhawk

📍 Best areas to explore

1. Frank McManus Hide
   Probably the main birdwatching spot. It offers views across the estuary and saltmarshes. Check the muddy areas and shallow water for waders.

2. The ponds and reedbeds
   Look out for Water Rail, Moorhen, Coot, Sedge Warbler and, with some luck, Kingfisher.

3. The channels on the northern side
   Good areas for Green Sandpiper and Kingfisher.

4. Hedgerows and woodland
   These can be productive for small passerines and, later in the year, finches and thrushes.

🕙 Opening hours

The Frank McManus Hide is open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 16:00 between September and March. Admission is free.
