Winter Marsh Birdwatching at Standifer Gap Marsh
Details
Join Birdwatchers of Scenic City for a relaxed winter birdwatching walk at Standifer Gap Marsh — one of the best spots in the area for marsh and wetland birds.
We’ll move at an easy pace, stop often, and focus on listening and scanning the marsh edges for activity. Winter is a great time to bird here: open habitat can mean clearer views, and you never know what will show up.
What to Expect
- Slow-paced, beginner-friendly birding
- Marsh + edge habitat: good chances for waterbirds, raptors, sparrows, and winter residents
- Plenty of time to observe, learn, and enjoy nature together
Important: Winter Conditions ❄️
This location can feel colder and windier than wooded trails because it’s more open. Please dress warmly: layers, hat, gloves, warm socks, and consider hand warmers.
What to Bring:
- Binoculars (if you have them — if not, you’re still welcome!)
- Comfortable shoes (trail conditions can be damp/muddy depending on weather)
- Water
- Optional: camera or birding notebook
All experience levels welcome — Chattanooga and surrounding areas too. Come bundle up and enjoy a peaceful winter bird walk with a friendly group. 🐦🌾
