This month our speaker will be John Byrd. John is a Cloud Security Engineer at BBVA Compass. He’s spent the last two years working to apply governance to an ever-growing and maturing Amazon Web Services environment. Most recently, he has been working to codify a new Enterprise Architecture Plan based around a fully automated Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery pipeline.

What is he talking about?
As a company’s cloud maturity grows, the ease of ownership can lead to runaway consequences without proper oversight, guardrails, and governance. It’s not atypical to have multiple accounts to allow each team/project their own workspace, but how do we provide quick deliver of these sandboxes (or production environments) without constantly being the steward of individual accounts? John will go over what tools AWS has available to manage a growing cloud presence while keeping standards and ensuring that the amount of work to manage and maintain your AWS footprint doesn’t scale with its size or complexity. Specific services discussed will include AWS Organizations, Service Control Policies, and CloudFormation with some review of CloudTrail, Config, CloudTrail and Lambda for automated security remediation concepts.
