18:00-18:05 - Meet & Greet
18:05 - Redhat - Service mesh in operation on OpenShift
Summary - As micro-service based applications become more complex the communication paths within them start to generate their own challenges in terms of traffic management, authentication and the ability of teams to observe the details of the communication. This presentation will show how Red Hat Service Mesh addresses these problems and enables teams to understand and control what happens in the communication mechanisms within applications.
Bio - Mark Roberts is a Red Hat Senior Solution Architect focusing on the transformation of development and runtime platforms as customers transition to micro-service based applications operating on Red Hat OpenShift. Mark is a software developer at heart who has spent many years working in pre-sales roles covering deployment automation, software development life-cycles, and configuration and change management.
18:50 - Tigera - Calico Network Policies in Kubernetes presented by Philippe Bogaerts
Summary - Calico Open Source is used in more than 1m nodes worldwide and by all 4 managed Kubernetes Services providers for container networking. In this talk we will introduce Calico Network Policies, some common scenarios and how you can use these effectively to secure Kubernetes networks. www.projectcalico.org
Bio - Philippe brings more than 20+ years of experience in security. Starting out as a trainer specializing in advanced TCP/IP protocols, networking and security, Philippe quickly became known by colleagues as “Philippe hacks to learn”.
About 5 years ago, containers and orchestration grabbed his attention and he started researching (mostly as a hobby), the architecture and security aspects of these new emerging technologies.
Today, Philippe contributes mostly by writing blog posts at https://medium.com/@xxradar , talking at meetups and co-organizing a renowned security conference https://brucon.org . During the daytime, Philippe is a solution architect at tigera.io
19:30 - Capgemini - Securing Redis in a multi-tiered environment presented by Jason Edwards
Summary – Amazon ElastiCache is a managed caching platform running on the AWS Public Cloud. In this talk, Jason will outline a solution he came up with to consolidate Redis caches and use encryption to ensure separation of concerns whilst working on a client project for Capgemini.
Bio – Jason brings more than 12 years of tech experience, 6 specifically in the field of DevOps. With a degree in software engineering, he started his career in 2008 as a help desk advisor at Manchester Metropolitan University. Then worked at The Lowry Theatre Salford Quays as a 1st, 2nd and 3rd line IT Support analyst before delving into the world of DevOps in 2014 as a Linux Engineer working at a Cheshire based PPI company. Today Jason works as a Senior Platform Engineer for Capgemini and is involved in government and public sector projects, using his extensive skills and knowledge to solve interesting challenges experienced by the client.
