We kick off the year with a packed event focused on Sustainability in IT... with four speakers covering various interesting topics. Further details about the speakers and panel members can be found below.

18:00-18:05 - Meet & Greet

18:05 -18:30 - Chris Harrison - Solar panels

Talk Synopsis : We live in a fairly standard, mid-1980s detached house with cavity wall insulation, loft insulation and double glazing – all of which we have installed in the time we’ve been there. 2 years ago we felt moved to do something to further reduce our impact on the environment. We chose to install solar panels on the roof. The talk covers the experience of how effective that has been including: cost of installation; experience of generation and financial benefits.

Speaker Bio : Chris is Managing Solution Architect and have worked for Capgemini 17½ years, all within public sector. His main interest is solving business problems and public sector has had more than enough of those to keep him amused for a long time. His interests include: getting out into the wild country of Shropshire, mid- and north Wales; He is saxophonist and is an archer shooting an English longbow.

18:30 - 18:55 - Roelof Kleinsmiede - Surely there isn’t enough grid capacity to power all these EV’s?

Talk Synopsis : The presentation is on how we can personally contribute to sustainability by investing in green technology such as Solar electricity generation, shifting demand using battery storage, driving electric vehicles and helping to kickstart new innovations by being an early adopter.

Speaker Bio : Roelof is a senior Technical Solution Architect for Capgemini based in the Midlands. His focus on large cloud migrations for government departments, solution governance and helping to lead our UK Architects community and curriculum. He is passionate about the personal contribution to sustainability that each of us can make.

18:55 - 19:20 - Andrew Collier - Electric Car

Talk Synopsis : The presentation is on the trials and tribulations of using an electric car to personally contribute to sustainability

Speaker Bio : Andrew is a Senior Solution Architect and Lead Engineer for Capgemini based in the Midlands. His focus is on legacy modernisation and large cloud migrations for government departments

19:20 - 19:30 - Close.

As this session is virtual there are a few NOT's to note:

  1. We will NOT be in the Old Joint Stock 😕
  2. We will NOT be providing food'ish 🙁🍕
  3. We will NOT be providing drink ☹️
However, it WILL still be a great event 😁
