Peak District - Sett Valley Trail to Kinder Scout Plateau (starting at Hayfield)

Details
Starting from the charming village of Hayfield, this route follows the gentle Sett Valley Trail before rising up into the rugged heart of the Peak District — the iconic Kinder Scout Plateau.
From the valley floor, the trail climbs steadily towards Kinder Low and the wild expanse of the plateau, where gritstone edges, windswept moorland, and panoramic views stretch in all directions.
This is a route of contrast — . On clear days, the views extend across to Manchester and even Snowdonia.
Essential for this walk
- Sturdy hiking boots for hill and mountain variable conditions
- Car Sharing
- Layers for changing weather just in case
- Plenty of water and snacks
- sunglasses and if lucky sunscreen (fingers crossed!)
- Good Photography Skills
- A Good Level of Mountainous Walking Experience!
This hike is not for the faint-hearted. While it covers a modest 9.89 miles, it involves a sustained ascent across varied and often challenging terrain, leading up to Kinder Scout Plateau—the highest point in the Peak District.
Ensure you bring plenty of high-energy snacks and sufficient fluids, as there aren't any facilities or opportunities to replenish food and drink along the way.
The descent will be via William Clough, which requires confidence in navigating uneven, loose rocky ground, large boulders, and stream crossings. Additionally, some sections include narrow ledges, so a head for heights is a prerequisite.
Please NOTE: Times stated of the hike may differ..we may take a few breaks or change the route depending on the weather ..also we will be going for food and drinks after..
