April 2022 - virtual
Communication in Data Science (Joint event with brum.ai)
Event overview
Communication can make or break a data science project: without effective communication between data scientists and data-driven decision makers, insights easily get lost in translation. Surveys of data scientists repeatedly show that communication-related issues, such as the difficulty of explaining concepts to non-experts, are perceived to be major challenges.
This virtual event is focused on problematizing communication issues that arise in data science, what can be done to improve understanding, and whether there are specific training gaps that need to be filled. The event will be opened up with a brief presentation by Dr. Bodo Winter (University of Birmingham), followed by a panel discussion (panel TBC) with panelists from different sectors. After this, there will be opportunities for the audience to share their personal experiences and participate in the discussion.
