
About us
The BRH hiking group offers hiking in the Bishop and the surrounding areas. Just a fun group with like-minded individuals of all ages and skill levels who enjoy hiking, backpacking, and snowshoe. Hikes will vary, and routes preplanned but most importantly hikes will be relaxed so everyone can enjoy the adventure and the beauty of the Sierras. I am not a guide, and your suggestion of hikes will be much appreciated.

Silver Lake to Tioga Road Backpacking Trip

Trailhead starts next to Silver Lake Campground, located near Silver Lake off Hwy 158 on the June Lake Loop—a region often called the "Switzerland of California." This route takes you up the canyon, offering stunning views down to Silver Lake and across to Grand Carson Peak. The canyon you're walking through was sculpted by an ancient glacier. There is a store and café at the resort. Trail is rated as Hard. Total elevation gain is 5,892 ft. and 19.7 Point to Point. Trail is in Ansel Adams Wilderness located in Inyo National Forest. Permit awarded for 6 people.
We will meet at Rush Creek Trailhead at 7:00 am and on the trail by 9:30 am or sooner hopefully. We will need to drive a vehicle or 2 and leave at Mono Pass TH on Hwy 120, Tioga Road.
Friday Aug 14th: Hike along Rush Creek Trail past Silver and Agnew Lakes to the back of Gem Lake. Past the creek crossing and at Alger Lake TH junction Here we plan on finding a campsite. About 4.5 miles from TH.
Saturday: August 15th: Pack up and hike along Alger Lakes Trail. This will take us up and over Gem Pass down to Alger Lakes. About 4.5 miles from Gem Lake.
Sunday August 16th: Pack up and continue hiking along Alger Lakes Trail. We climb over Koip Peak Pass (12,281 ft) and down to our vehicles. Note: as a group we can decide if at Koip Peak Pass if we want to do a short hike without packs up Koip Peaks trail to the summit of Koip Peak (12,973 ft). And time permitting.You will need a California campfire permit if plan to use camp stove. You can get a free permit online at Campfire Permit - Ready for Wildfire. No wilderness permit is required.
Bear canisters are recommended but not required. No campfires above 10,000 ft.
