Let's talk DAG! IOTA, Nano, Byteball & Hashgraph

Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) is a "graph that flows in one direction where no element can be a child of itself" (source: https://medium.com/@hamzasurti/advanced-data-structures-part-1-directed-acyclic-graph-dag-c1d1145b5e5a) . The data structure's utilized are very different from the blockchain data structures utilized by most cryptocurrencies. A few crypto projects have elected to use DAG technology, namely IOTA, Nano, Byteball, and Hedera Hashgraph (not live yet) has also been working on it.
Proponents of DAG claim benefits of DAG's include the lack of transaction fees (in most cases, making it great for microtransactions), fast transactions (which only get faster as network size increases), lack of mining / environmental benefits, good decentralization, and claim they're not as difficult to scale. Critics argue DAG projects are not decentralized enough, not secure, prone to attack, and only become more usable as when the network is large and robust.
If you want to get a better idea of how these DAG projects differ, I suggest watching the following videos.

Are DAG-based cryptocurrencies going to exist in the future? Are the crticisms fair and can they be effectively addressed in the near future?
