It's about that time of year, again, where cryptocurrency enthusiasts around the world unite in thanks and celebration. It's been a long, hard winter for us all, but now is the time to put our differences and troubles aside and remember the great teachings of Satoshi.
For those who aren't in the know, CoinFest is an annual decentralized convention that occurs simultaneously around the world. Run by volunteers as a non-profit and funded by generous sponsors, it has always been free to attend and always will be. It also only holds crypto assets and occurs at venues that accept or support cryptocurrency (such as by accepting it for payments).
Vancouver is the birthplace of CoinFest and participates every year. This year, we have a couple different events lined up with very different themes, and we encourage anyone to attend! Highlights will include:
APRIL 3, 7 PM: a workshop on crypto bounties and innovations in the emerging gig economy, with experts from DCTRL, Gitcoin and Bounties Network
APRIL 4, 7 PM: DCTRL regularly hosts a presentation called "Intro to Decentralization." During CoinFest, they're going to have a special edition focused on their AO and solarpunk concepts
APRIL 5, 7 PM: a panel discussion on the best methods of converting new users from fiat to cryptocurrency, hosted by Ed Yuen with experts from HoneyBadger, Coinsquare and BitNational
APRIL 6, 10 AM: a blockchain gaming expo, put on by the team behind www.blockchaingaming.com. It will last all day and feature booths and presentations
APRIL 6, 8 PM: a final dinner at India Gate, the world's first Indian restaurant to accept Bitcoin (since 2013), who are unfortunately being renovicted
APRIL 7, 1 PM: a mass blockchain wedding registered via the BitNation protocol, with a line-up of well-known couples and the @DogePreacher officiating
APRIL 7, 4 PM: the Decentralized Dance Party will take us from the wedding at Francesco restaurant (very fancy, accepts Bitcoin) to the afterparty at DCTRL
Stay tuned for updates!
