Negative Interest Rates, Monetary Policy & Bitcoin as a Store of Value
Hosted by Bitcoin-N-Beers Vancouver
Details
Hey Everyone, the main topic for this event will be the negative interest rates that have been introduced by numerous central banks, monetary policy in general, how it will affect the economy, and what it all means for Bitcoin.
Right now negative interest rates have become increasingly common in a number of European countries, particularly those in Scandinavia, as well as in Japan. More countries seem to be inching towards negative interest rates. Yet, at the same time, the money supply is inflating, meaning savers are not just taxed through inflation but through negative interest as well.
This has short-term and long-term implications. In the short term, it's argued that people are likely to move towards safe-haven assets that aren't subject to the same depreciation. Such assets could include commodities like gold, real estate, and possibly Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
